In 1992, a panel of Scotch whisky experts convened in Riedel's headquarters in Austria to test a range of 19 different glass shapes. On the basis of the first selection, Georg Riedel undertook further research with the help of master distillers in Scotland.

This research resulted in the Vinum Malt Scotch Whisky glass that is an elongated thistle shape on a truncated stem. The design incorporates a small, slightly out-turned lip which directs the spirit onto the tip of the tongue where sweetness is perceived '? and serves to emphasize the creaminess of top quality single malt whisky.

In September 1992, a group of Britain'?s leading single malt experts gathered in London to test the prototype. The Riedel Single Malt Whisky glass was declared a success, bringing forward the pure malt character of all the whiskeys tasted by concentrating their aromas and accentuating their softness, roundness and silkiness.
